Those of you looking for fun-in-the-sun this week have a full plate before you.Tonight's council meeting is full of all-out craziness. Well, maybe not all-out, but certifiably interesting to say the least. We have yet another well-intentioned Community Improvement Plan to occupy city hall's dusty shelves. It's too bad, because it looks like an excellent plan that the community of Little River Acres would benefit from tremendously. Then, we head on over to the alternative transportation department and their plans to increase bus fares while keeping their level of service at sub-standard. And then to top the night off, a nice little reminder to everyone exactly what sprawling development actually costs our city. Take a look at those astronomical numbers that we're paying out and then tell me that you support all these infrastructure improvements to the 'burbs that we cannot afford.
Then, if your Monday night extravaganza hasn't worn you out, head on over to the Fogolar Furlan Club on Wednesday to hear our favourite union-basher speak at the conference on the Housing & Automotive Perspective for Windsor & Essex County, hosted by the Greater Windsor Home Builders’ Association. Don't worry, he promises "not to hold back anything"!"I have agreed to speak again this year to The Greater Windsor Home Builders’ Association Viewpoint 2008 conference on the Housing & Automotive Perspective for Windsor & Essex County. It is scheduled for Wednesday November 28, 2007. I will be updating the City of Windsor on the current state of the auto sector in the area and discussing the implications for auto workers in Windsor of the recently negotiated contracts in the US. Needless to say it is going to be a difficult labour year for Canada. I also plan on a deep dive into the "Windsor Issue" and will provide an outside perspective on some of the problems facing Windsor and their root causes and offering some thoughts as to what I think needs to be done to 'rescue' this region."

With respect to the Little River Acres proposal: I think the area would be better served if at least part of the development around the East and South sides of the park was commercial. A small market or other service businesses would make it easier for Acres residents to walk for small shopping trips. Its about a mile from the back of the Villages to either the Mac's at Lauzon or the Price Chopper on Wyandotte.
Anon, perhaps thats what needs to be done with that 'proposed residential' section. Something mixed-use, comercial and apartments above? And, why a parking lot. Why no parking on the street? This looks like it could be a 'Town Green' situation.
I would take Dennis Desrosier's word before I would take Eddie's. Dennis knows the ins and outs of the auto industry even if he is heavy handed in his delivery. But at least you are getting what exactly he means and knows. With Eddie you get feel good platitudes that mean nothing while pretending he knows everything. Why pay those consultants Eddie if you don't listen to them?
As for Little River Acres. Parking lots are this city's future. Everything has parking lots and we wonder why the sprawl continues and it cost a fortune to up-keep. Density Eddie, density.
